Help With Reading

Don't Give Up if You Get Stuck - Help Is At Hand

Manx Dyslexia Association

The MDA has a large collection of books here in Onchan Library for you to use to help with reading problems.These are also available for loan to your nearest local library on the Island.


Encouraging Young Readers

The library stocks a selection of books from Barrington Stoke (barringtonstoke.co.uk) to help young reluctant readers. We also hold a wide range of appealing titles such as HenryWinkler's 'Hank Zipster', The Diary of A Wimpy Kid, Captain Underpants, Horrid Henry and much more. Library staff are happy to help and offer suggestions. We also have a range of Comic Books.


Online Help

Words For Life offers reading encouragement for children of 3 -11 and all the family too. Oxford Owl is a brilliant site full of ideas to helpful advice and resources such as free ebooks. The site is aimed at children age 3 - 11 and their parents.


Audio

We have a collection of read along books& CDs for children, and a choice of audio on CD and MP3 to appeal to all ages.


Large Print

There are hundreds of large print books available on the library shelves, and we do take requests. The latest authors and best sellers are published in a large print format.


Manx Blind Welfare

The Manx Blind Welfare Society are based in Corrin Court in Onchan. They have an extensive talking book library, a recording studio producing a weekly news service, and a specialist equipment service. They also provide home and hospital visits.
