Beyond the Deep Blue Sea

We had 25 entries of an excellent standard for 'Beyond The Deep Blue Sea' this year's Harvey Briggs Cup for Writing.

Our thanks to local poet and writer Elizabeth Adams from Onchan for putting such a lot of thought into judging the competition. She  wrote comments for each child who took part, and made special bookmarks with a verse as well. 

The winning entry was 'The Seal' by Madeleine Couch, which was judged to be 'Excellent, well written and fast moving'. We were delighted that the new Chairman of Onchan District Commissioners, Robin Turton, could present the children with their prizes on his first official engagement.

Runners Up were Charlotte Babb, age 8, who wrote 'The Magic Penny' Kyle Santanatoglia age 11, and Carys Coulter age 5 who made a book with pictures called 'The Little Mermaid'. Emily-Rose Lally the previous winner, also received an award.

Harvey Briggs was not able to join us for the presentation this year, but he has copies of all the winning entries. We would like to thank him for encouraging a new generation of writers.
